Word 2007 Q&A: Keep Text Together, Landscape Table, Multiple Page Numbers

April 18th, 2008 | by Loren |

How do I keep text together on one line?

If you want it to look like normally typed text, with spaces between words, you would use non-breaking spaces (aka hard spaces). Instead of using the space bar, use Shift + Ctrl + space. Any words with non-breaking space between them will stay together. Use the Show &paga; to see what you’re doing when making the changes. Regular spaces look like dots; non-breaking spaces look like a tiny o shape. You text will break wherever there is a regular space.

How do I make a landscape table?

This would be a two-step process: you would need to make the page landscape, then either insert the table or resize an existing table to make it as wide as a landscape page.

To change a page to landscape:

Page Layout tab, Page Setup group, click Orientation, then click Landscape.

Inserting a table:

Insert tab, Tables group, Table. Use the grid to identify how many columns and rows you want.

Can I have page numbers in two places on the same page?

Sure you can. Use Insert Page Number (Insert tab, Header & Footer group) two times and choose a different position each time.

How do I add the time to a footer?

You add time like you would add a date: in the Insert tab, in the Text group, click Date & Time (or if you are in a Header or Footer, Header & Footer Tools, Design tab, Insert group). In the list are some dates styles that include time, and at the very end of the list are a couple time options. Remember to check Update Automatically if you want it put in the current time and keep it updated (you won’t see it constantly changing the time, only when you use Print Preview or Print or manually update it).

I do not want my table to break. Please share with with me how to keep my table together at all times when I am adding more text to a table. It’s okay if it goes to the next page. I just want the table to stay together and not split the rows. Thank you.

Hi Juan Daniel – thanks for the interesting question. Word typically won’t separate the dash and the 7 with a space, so I wonder if there has been an AutoCorrect rule added to make that happen on your computer. When you type in -7% then move your mouse pointer over it, does a little blue line by a button with a lightening bolt show up? That would indicate an AutoCorrect rule has been set, and by clicking on the button, you get a couple options on how to revise it. You would use change back to “-” for a one-time change, and Stop Automatically Correcting… so it never changes it again.
Let me know if that does or doesn’t work. Good luck!

Thanks for teh tip, but not working for me: is there a way to keep “-7%” together? It’s separating the “-” from the 7%. Thanks!
