Introduction to ¶ Paragraph Marks in Word
February 19th, 2008 | by Loren |Paragraph marks are part of the hidden formatting symbols that make up a Word file. Being familiar with them can be valuable in two ways:
- Troubleshooting problems with a document.
- A basic understanding of them will give you greater control over the formatting and layout of your documents.
To see the paragraph marks, plus all other hidden code, press the Show/Hide ¶ button in the Paragraph group on the Home tab. The same button will turn them off.
Paragraph marks are part of the hidden formatting code (aka non-printing characters) that makes up a Word document. Every Word document has at least one paragraph mark.
There are two ways to put them into a document:
- Pushing the Enter key.
- Double-clicking with the I-shaped pointer anywhere below existing text or objects in a document.
