Using Line Breaks in Word

February 15th, 2008 | by Loren |

When typing up a bulleted or numbered list, sometimes there will be a line where you don’t want a bullet or number. One way to do this is to insert a line break; Shift + Enter. A line break allows you to break the continuity of a list, and when you enter after it the bullets or numbering will continue.

   1.   First item
   2.   Second item (Shift + Enter here)
The line break removes the numbering from this line (Enter here)
   3.   Third item

Line breaks, also known as soft returns, are a solution to try whenever you are trying to temporarily stop formatting.
