Customize Word 2007: Changing Default Line Spacing
February 11th, 2008 | by Loren |A complaint that comes from users upgrading to Word 2007 is about the default line spacing. Word 2007 has a default spacing of 10 pts after each paragraph (when you push Enter) plus a slightly increased single spacing. Many users don’t want any automatic spacing going on, or just want to keep Word settings the way they were in older versions, so here is a couple ways to change it.
To change using Styles – change to the Word 2003 Style: On the Home tab, look for the Styles group and click Change Styles. Under Style Set, choose Word 2003. Go back to Change Styles, choose Set as Default to ensure all new documents will keep the same look. This will also change the font style. To change back to the Word 2007, follow the same steps, and choose that style set.
To change just the default Line & Paragraph spacing:
open the Paragraph box. Under Indents and Spacing, change the Before and After to 0 pt, and be sure Line Spacing is on Single. At the bottom of the box, click Default, then Yes. Now every new Word file will not have any additional line spacing in it.
