Outlook 2007: How to Add an E-mail Address Link to a Signature
July 30th, 2008 | by Loren |
You can make it easy for people you exchange e-mail with to create e-mails to you by adding a return e-mail address to a e-mail signature. This would allow people who have received e-mail from you to write back to you with a new message, rather than a reply, and also allows you to add your own subject line to the e-mail.
- Start by editing an existing signature or create a new signature by creating a new mail message, then in the Message tab, Include group, click Signature then click Signatures. Choose the signature to edit or create the new signature.
- In the Edit signature area, move your cursor to where the e-mail link should go or select the text for the link (you can type in the text for the link in the next steps).
- Click the Insert Hyperlink button on the toolbar in the Edit signature area.
- Make sure that the Link to: column has E-mail Address selected (1).
- The Text to display: (2) can be anything you want; it could be something like Click here to e-mail me.
- You can choose the E-mail address: (3) from the list of Recently used e-mail addresses: (5) by clicking on the address the link should use or you can type it in. Be sure to leave the mailto: at the beginning, it is part of the code that makes an e-mail address work differently from a web page address.
- The e-mail Subject: (4) will be whatever you type in here. It can help to identify the topic that your original e-mail was about, and will automatically be filled in.
- Click OK to finish with inserting the hyperlink, and OK to finish editing the signature.

Test your e-mail link to be sure it works. It should use the default e-mail program to generate a blank e-mail addressed and with the subject line filled in.
