Word 2007: How to Add the Current Time to a Document
May 15th, 2008 | by Loren |You can add a time to a document just like you could add the date. In the Insert tab, in the Text group, click Date & Time (or if you are in a Header or Footer, Header & Footer Tools, Design tab, Insert group). In the list of Available formats: are dates that include time, and at the very end of the list are a couple time-only options. These will insert either a static time or the current time. Check the Update Automatically option if you want it put in the current time and keep it updated (you won’t see it constantly changing the time, only when you take a step to update it).
Another Kind of Time
Word also has an EditTime field. (Click the Insert tab, in the Text group click Quick Parts, click Fields. Change the Categories to Date and Time to see all the available date and time fields.) EditTime shows the number of minutes that a document has been worked on.
Note that there are other types of dates listed in the Date and Time Field names, CreateDate, PrintDate and SaveDate. Who knows, you could need those someday.

Updating Date and Time Fields
Fields will update when:
- you open the file that includes fields
- manually update them (right-click on the field, choose update now or select the field and push F9)
I think the easiest way to update fields is to use Print Preview, but you first need to change a Word Option to tell it to update when in Print Preview or Printing the file. In the Office button, click Word Options, then click the Display category in the left pane. Under Printing options, check the box by Update fields before printing.
