How to Convert Tables to Text in Word 2007

May 8th, 2008 | by Loren |

With the cursor anywhere in the table to be converted, look in Table Tools, then the Layout tab, Data group. Click Convert to Text. In the Convert Table to Text box, use the Separate text with option to layout the converted text.

  • Paragraph marks will make the text from each cell a separate paragraph.
  • Tabs will allow you to use the text as tabbed columns. It initially won’t look right, the converted text will need to be selected and the tabs for each column will need to be set.
  • Commas will add a comma character between each cell’s text and a paragraph will mark the end of each row.
  • Other allows you to specify the character to use to separate each cell’s text. If you want to use a colon or dash, remember to type in the spaces you want inserted.
  • Convert nested tables is only available when using Paragraph marks as a separator.
